Three people were injured Monday afternoon in a crash involving three vehicles on Hammer Road in Albert Lea.
Sarafina Moo, 8, was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for suspected serious injury, along with Karen Boyer, 70, of Albert Lea and Judy Hassett, 76, who both had suspected minor injuries.
Police stated Dustin Stendel, 51, of Albert Lea, was driving a 2004 Chevy Suburban westbound on Hammer Road near Y.H. Hanson Avenue when he came to a complete stop in an attempt to avoid hitting a dog that was crossing the street.
Boyer, who was driving a 2011 Ford Escape with Hassett as the passenger, was behind Stendel, started slowing down and also came to a complete stop.
A third vehicle, a 2013 Honda Pilot, driven by December San, 30 of Clarks Grove was not able to stop in time before striking Boyer’s vehicle, which was then pushed into Stendel’s vehicle.
Police stated Sarafina Moo was a passenger in the Honda Pilot and was not wearing a seatbelt. She was reportedly in the back seat and was thrown into the center console area of the vehicle. Two other children in the vehicle were not injured.
Police stated all other occupants of the vehicles were wearing seat belts or in proper child restraints.
