Albert Lea Community Theatre this week announced auditions for Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” will be held Sept. 28 and 29 at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway, in Albert Lea. The auditions on Saturday will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Sunday auditions will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The story centers on veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, who had successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. With a dazzling score featuring well-known standards, including “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” “How Deep is the Ocean” and the perennial title song, White Christmas is an uplifting, wholesome musical that will delight audiences of all ages.

Directed by Gordy Handeland, eight performances are scheduled for Dec. 5 to 14. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing and read from the script. There are roles for adults ages 18 to 80 and one role for a young girl between 8 and 14. Rehearsals will be scheduled for weeknights starting mid-October, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates.
