The city of Albert Lea reports the following project updates for Sept. 3-6:
- Spicer Road reconstruction and watermain replacement: The contractor placed sod on all areas disturbed by the project this week. Next week the contractor plans to install the final layer of asphalt on the street.
- Fairlane Terrace area: With sod placement done, all work is now complete except for minor cleanup and corrective items.
- Hammer Road east end resurfacing: Work began this week with removal of the asphalt on the dead end segment at the east end of Hammer Road. Crews are working on reshaping and re-grading the existing rock base and plan to begin installing the new blacktop surface next week.
- Greenwood Drive resurfacing and sidewalk project: The contractor plans to begin work on the main portion of the project either late next week or the following week. Once work starts, Greenwood Drive will be closed to through traffic with Bridge Avenue serving as the detour. Greenwood residents will be able to access their driveways, but will only have access from one direction depending on which side of the Green Lea Lane intersection they live on.
- Sibley Avenue and Marshall Street reconstruction: The contractor anticipates starting work within the next two weeks.
- Seventh Street and Winter Avenue reconstruction: On Seventh Street crews installed the new curb and gutter this week as well as the driveway aprons on the south side of the road. Next week they will begin grading for and installing the new sidewalk on the north side of the road.
- On Winter Avenue the contractor has now finished the water and sewer services south of the old railroad bed. Crews are working on replacing the storm sewer in that section and should finish early next week. Then they will begin excavating and installing the new rock base in that section. They will also begin removing the pavement between Abbott Street and the abandoned railroad tracks.
- Downtown Alley reconstruction: No work took place this week. Next week the contractor plans to complete work on the alley between William and East Main streets, and to begin removing the existing alley pavement between Clark and William streets.
