If you applied for FEMA assistance after severe storms and flooding from June 16 to July 4, FEMA will review your application and the results of the inspection and/or documentation submitted to determine how much assistance you’re eligible for. You will get a letter via mail or email explaining whether you are approved for assistance, how much assistance you will receive and how to appeal FEMA’s decision if you disagree with it. You may appeal within 60 days from the date of your decision letter.
The decision letter will detail the types of documents or information that will need to be provided if you choose to appeal. If you’re found not currently eligible, FEMA may need documentation like an insurance settlement letter, proof of identity, proof of homeownership or occupancy, or home repair receipts to reconsider your application. Remember to include your name, application number, and disaster number (DR-4797) on each page of the documents you submit. If you wish to provide additional details you can send a completed Appeal Request Form, which is included in your FEMA decision letter.
Appeal documentation can be submitted through your DisasterAssistance.gov profile, at the Waseca Disaster Recovery Center, or by mail; it can be addressed to FEMA, P.O. Box 10055, Hyattsville, MD 20782-7055. If you’re not currently eligible due to a missed home inspection, to proceed, you must call FEMA’s Helpline at 800-621-3362 to confirm your contact information and verify your need for assistance.
If you still haven’t applied for FEMA assistance for underinsured damage caused by the June 16 – July 4 floods and severe storms and you’re a homeowner or renter in Freeborn, Mower, Waseca and Steele counties, you can still apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app, by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 or in-person at the Waseca Disaster Recovery Center. The center is located at the Waseca Public Safety Center, 303 S. State Street and will resume normal hours this from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until permanent closure on Sept. 27.
Some types of FEMA grant assistance may include temporary housing assistance, home repair or replacement, and coverage for other disaster-related expenses, such as moving and storage costs, primary vehicle repair or replacement, damaged furniture and appliances (including furnace, water heater and HVAC) and childcare costs.
