Marlyn (Marty) Beckmann of Rochester, Mn passed away on August 26, 2024 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, MN. at the age of 86.

Marty was born May 20, 1938 in Graettinger, IA. to Russell and Phyllis (Starkey) Johnson. She grew up on a small farm outside of Graettinger and graduated from Graettinger Community High School in 1956. She then attended Mankato Commercial College. After graduation, she worked for the Graettinger State Bank.

On November 3rd, 1957, Marty married Jerald Beckmann at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Graettinger, IA. The couple lived in Fairmont, Minnesota first then moved to Mountain Lake, MN in 1959. They later moved to Albert Lea, MN in 1965. Marty worked as an elementary teacher’s aide for many years for the Albert Lea Area Schools. She also was a secretary for Albert Lea Education Association during that time. After retiring in 1998 Marty stayed in Albert Lea until September of 2020. She then made her home at The Homestead at Rochester in Rochester, MN.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, participated in UMW circles and various other church activities.

In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and quilting and watching Hallmark movies.

Marty is survived by her three children, Jerome (Elizabeth) of Carroll, IA., Marilyn (Bruce) Foss of Rochester, MN., and Robert (Chris) of St Louis Park, MN., grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Marty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerald, and brother, Ronald Johnson.

The funeral service will be held at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11 AM. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, MN.
