Neil died September 5th, 2024 at Auburn Meadows Memory Care in Waconia, MN, where he had been residing for the last year. He was 82 years old. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 11 AM at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home. Reverend Kent Otterman will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Neil Severson

Neil was born February 15th, 1942 in Wells Village, Faribault County, MN. He was born to Noble G. Severson and Lucille M. (Siglowski) Severson. Neil had been a proud lifelong resident of Albert Lea. He attended St. Theodore’s Catholic School through the 9th grade, then attended Albert Lea High School. Neil enlisted in the Army March, 1959, and was stationed in Germany where he served with great pride, as a Radio Teletype Operator (morse code). He was honorably discharged April 1962. Neil married the love of his life Mary Ann Metcalfe June 27th, 1966, in Forest City, IA. They were happily married for 30 years, until Mary’s untimely passing, in 1997.

Neil worked at Streater’s Ind. for 30 plus years and retired in 2004. Neil’s passions were his family and his love for fishing and camping, as well as attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, which brought him so much pride and joy over the years. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, walking at the mall, riding his bike around fountain lake, reading and music. In recent years, he loved spending his time with his longtime companion and best friend, Colleen Ingvaldson and having coffee at McDonalds with their many friends.

Neil is survived by daughter, Kari (Bret) McEnelly; grandchildren Karlie, Chloe, Sam and Max; stepdaughter, Julie (Tim) Meyer-Kirsch; grandchildren; Brandon Kirsch, Tyler Meyer; stepdaughter Kim (Ron) Schrader; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben) Davis, Kelly (Brian) Bluedorn, Nicole Schrader; step daughter-in-law, Paulette Hanson; grandchildren, Brian (Laura) Hanson, Brett (Aaron) Braaten, Corey (Katarina) Hanson; many great grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Vickie) Severson, Micheal Severson, Bruce Severson; sister Colette Pooley; many nieces, nephews and cousins; long time companion, Colleen Ingvaldson; sister-in-law Betty Hermanson.

Neil was preceded in death by his Grandparents; parents, Noble and Lucille, spouse, Mary Ann; brothers, Rodney Severson, Gary Severson; sister Rosalie Wolff; stepson Steve Hanson; grandson Josh Kirsch; granddaughter Jessica Stevens; father-in-law Tom Sr. Metcalfe; mother-in-law Ila Metcalfe; brothers-in-law, Donald Metcalfe, Tom Jr. Metcalfe, Dale Metcalfe, Jim Metcalfe and Duane Metcalfe; sisters-in-law Phyllis Andersen and Shirley Torsch.
