EN(dur)ANCE by Robin Gudal
“The winds of change are blowing.”
This is a game we used to play with youth. You say the “winds of change are blowing for…” then you move in the circle that has been created; only each time you remove a chair, as everyone scrambles to get one. Eventually the one left is the winner of the game. Sound familiar? Do you, like me, rush from this to that and try to be the last one standing?
Some time ago I visited a store and was greeted by turkeys, pumpkins, beautiful fall colors and flannel clothing! “Oh my,” I thought. “Is it really time to think about the leaves changing, hot cider, the aroma of fall and all its beauty?”
I am not ready. I have barely embraced all the delight and excitement of summer. Our schedules have been more of a hurricane season, rushing from here to there, event to event, gathering to gathering and then collapsing on my comfy couch to catch up midafternoon. I barely remember all the events of the day and week. It may be my age catching up with me, or it may be this activity-driven society we live in. Sometimes I wish to step back to my childhood and the “Little House on the Prairie” dream.
“Seasons come and seasons go. Every one of them is gonna pass, yeah… And you’re closer to home. Heartache comes and heartache goes. The road might feel long and the end’s hard to see. I’ll carry you. Oh, I know it ain’t easy but what really is, don’t you quit on me now, don’t you ever give in. So, don’t wish it away. It’ll all pass too soon; walk slow, love well.” — “Seasons,” We Are Messengers.
Change — another word for this is transformation or the state of being transformed, changed in form, appearance, nature, or character, according to a Google word search.
Oh, how I need to daily be reminded to have my charter changed, adjusted, straightened out.
I find myself being of the me-oriented thought vs. the Jesus-first mindset.
“And we all, with unveiled faces, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into his image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.” — 2 Corinthians 3:18 Amplified Bible
