Shirley Joan VandeBrake, 80, passed away on Sept 16, 2024. She was born on July 12, 1944 in Albert Lea, MN to Agnes and Irvin Jacobson. On July 19, 1963, she married the love of her life, Gary VandeBrake, in Clarks Grove, MN. Shirley was known for her perseverance, her deep love for her family, and her passion for horses. Despite her small stature, she possessed a commanding presence that was felt by all who knew her. Shirley and Gary were owners of Performance Auto Service and Machine in Colorado Springs and later VandeBrake Machine in Peyton, CO. Her educational journey began at Clarks Grove Elementary and continued through Albert Lea Junior/Senior High School. Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gary; her parents, Irvin and Agnes Jacobson; her brother, Roger Jacobson; and her in-laws, Cornelus and Gertrude VandeBrake. She is survived by her sons, Todd (Debbie) and Dean (Suzanna); grandchildren, Jase (Greta), Dane, Cameron, Justin (Elisabeth), Jenna (Timothy); great-grandson, Kory and sister Karen (Darryl) Flim. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Right to Life. Shirley’s legacy of love, leadership, and unwavering faith will be cherished and remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
