Junior Andrew Tscholl finishes in 7th place
Bringing in 19 teams and over 100 runners from various midwest states, the annual Jim Flim Invitational was held Saturday afternoon in Winona.
Of the 19 teams the Albert Lea boys cross country team finished in 12th place and the girls completed well, but did not field enough runners to register a team score.
Leading the way for the boys team was junior Andrew Tscholl, who finished in seventh place with a time of 17:21.0. Classmates Axel Calderon and Noah McGaffey were the next finishers for the
Tigers, crossing the finish line in 80th and 81st place with times of 20:36.4 and 20:42.2, respectively.
Also scoring for the Albert Lea boys were senior Jackson Drescher, who came in 83rd with a time of 20:45.0, and sophomore Caden Hanke in 84th place with a time of 20:54.7.
“Andrew Tscholl had a great meet, coming in seventh place against some of the top competition in section and in the state,” said head coach Jim Haney. “He passed 10 runners along a hilly stretch around a mile and a half into the meet. He set himself up for a great run toward the most important meets in October.”
As a team, the Tigers finished with 302 points. Winona won the meet with a team score of 29. The Winhawks also claimed the top three spots in the race with senior Leo Lohnes finishing first with a time of 16:47.7.
On the girls side, only 10 of the 19 teams fielded enough runners to compete in the team event. Albert Lea, being one shy of the mark, was led by sophomore Elle Schulz who finished in 22nd place with a time of 22:52.1.
“Elle Schulz continued to lead the team,” Haney said. “She had a great run and the coaching staff was proud of how she attacked a tough course. The last 800, Elle pushed the pace and had an outstanding finish for 22nd place.”
Freshman Alizay Kratz came not far behind in 24th place with a time of 23:50.4. Seniors Mya Hanke and Lauren Raleigh finished in 50th and 74th places, respectively. Hanke with a time of 25:05.1 and Raleigh with a time of 28:17.6.
Faribault won the team portion of the event with 34 points. Senior Sophia Comfere of Rochester Century won the individuals race with a time of 20:29.6, more than 15 seconds ahead of second place.
