5 things to do this week: New ACT play, fall festival and more

“Drinking Habits” by ACT

Kick off the Albert Lea Community Theater’s 2024-25 season with their production of “Drinking Habits.” The play tells the comedic story of two nuns making wine to keep their convent’s doors open as well as reporters, Paul and Sally, working undercover as a priest and a nun. Wine and secrets are spilled as everyone tries to preserve the convent and reconnect with lost loves.

The play’s opening night is Thursday with additional shows running Friday, Saturday and a Sunday matinee, as well as Oct. 9 through 12. All showings are at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of Sunday’s matinee at 2 p.m.

October Lea Fall Festival

Take advantage of early fall by going to the October Lea Fall Festival from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Events at The Broadway. Samples of beers and cocktails for those over 21 will be served from 3 to 5 p.m. Food will be provided by Cento, and fall-inspired drinks, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Papa Greezy will play live music from 6 to 9 p.m. This is a family friendly event and is free to attend.

Trinity Lutheran Soup and Pie Day

Make a difference in the community and enjoy some good food by stopping at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea for their Soup and Pie Day Thursday. The church will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.. There will be wild rice, chicken noodle, chili and potato ham soups. There will also be lefse for sale during both serving times. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 3 to 10 and free for children under 3. Proceeds from the event will go toward local charities and World Hunger.

Polka Service and German Dinner

First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea will host a special polka service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church which will be followed by a German dinner. Polka music will be provided by the Jolly Ramblers, a group specializing in playing polka music for mass and other church services.

Halloween-themed trivia night

Come to Good Shot Golf and Sporting Clays in Emmons Thursday with a group of four to six people and test your spooky knowledge. Trivia will begin at 6 p.m. There will be food available as well as fall specialty drinks.
