A jury found an Albert Lea man guilty Wednesday of first-degree burglary in May after a three-day trial.
Roger Lee Voss III, 27, was serving prison time for a conviction of ineligible person in possession of a firearm and was returned to Albert Lea from prison to stand trial for the burglary charge.
Court documents state police were called to a residence on Foothills Circle on May 24, after receiving a report of a man who had been assaulted by a male wearing all black. He told an officer he was standing outside the garage when Voss came into the garage from the backyard, telling him to call 911 and that the police were after him.
He reportedly walked into the garage and first tried to take a bike and then demanded the keys to the man’s car.
After the man refused, Voss reportedly pushed the man into an organ that was stored in the garage and then grabbed a pair of lawn shears.
The man told police he was afraid Voss was going to stab him.
Voss ultimately ran away, and police found him hiding in bushes near the former Dairy Queen on Bridge Avenue. He was arrested at gunpoint.
Sentencing is slated for Nov. 21.
