Team won state championship in 2023

The Lake Mills boys cross country team will defend their team state championship from 2023 after dominating the competition at the state qualifying meet Thursday afternoon at Central Springs.

All of the runners that scored for the Bulldogs finished in the top 15 for a total score of 34, leaving the second place finisher, St. Edmond Fort Dodge in the dust with 80 points.

Leading the way for Lake Mills was junior Hayden Thompson, coming in second place with a time of 16:30.7. Winning the meet with a time of 16:13.0 was North Iowa senior Gavin Grunhovd.

Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was junior Knute Rogne (fourth place, 16:53.2), senior Kade Van Roekel (fifth place, 17:04.9), junior Stephen Brandenburg (eighth place, 17:21.9) and sophomore Lane Rygh (15th place, 18:03.2).

Lake Mills moves onto the Class 1A state meet, which will take place at 11:15 a.m. Nov. 2 at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge and will feature 156 of the state’s top runners.
