MAKE Publishing, co-founded by Amanda Gregory and Joe House in 2023, is on a mission to educate, inspire and equip the next generation to excel in the world of manufacturing. Through engaging books, hands-on activities and community outreach, MAKE is transforming the way children and families experience manufacturing.

At the heart of MAKE Publishing is its debut book, “Blake Explores Manufacturing,” which introduces children to the wonders of manufacturing. The company’s monthly “Future Makers” newsletter continues to spark curiosity with STEM activities and stories that showcase how manufacturing is a vital part of everyday life.

On Saturday, MAKE Publishing invites families to a free S.T.E.M storytime building activity from 10 to 11 a.m. at All the Things — studio and boutique in Albert Lea, at 136 S. Broadway Ave. This interactive event is designed to immerse children in hands-on manufacturing experiences that align with the principles of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Shari Sprague, Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce executive director and owner of All the Things — studio and boutique, expressed her excitement about hosting the event.

“As both the chamber executive and a local business owner, I am incredibly proud to host the S.T.E.M storytime building activity,” she said. “This event is a perfect example of how we can bring our community together around something as essential as manufacturing, while sparking curiosity and creativity in our youngest generation. It’s crucial to show kids that manufacturing isn’t just something that happens far away — it’s a part of their everyday lives, and it’s exciting!”

By hosting the event, she said she hoped too open doors for children and families to explore careers in STEM fields and understand how manufacturing plays a vital role in the community and beyond.

“It’s an honor to support MAKE Publishing’s mission of educating and inspiring future innovators,” she said. “I’m proud to be a part of something that can truly shape the future of our local workforce, all while making learning fun.”

MAKE Publishing not only supports educators with book readings and local manufacturing tours but also helps parents create meaningful learning moments through at-home activities. Additionally, manufacturers can engage their teams with customized versions of “Blake Explores Manufacturing,” complete with company logos, fostering a deeper connection to their industry.

“We believe manufacturing is everywhere, and it’s cool. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of makers by showing them how everything from the toys they play with to the cars their parents drive are part of the manufacturing process,” said co-founder Amanda Gregory.

MAKE Publishing also plays a role in the community by sponsoring transportation for schools and Christian groups, ensuring children have access to these enriching educational experiences.
