5 things to do this week: Chili cook-off, comedy night, holiday fun and more

Chili cook-off

Oakland Lutheran Church will host a chili cook-off and fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. There will be a silent auction, a drawing for a quarter of beef and a lefse sale. Hans the Music Man will provide entertainment. Admission is $10 for those age 13 and up, $5 for children age 6 to 12 and free for those age 5 and under. Proceeds from the event will benefit Oakland Lutheran Church. To enter the cook-off, call 507-373-1737 or email oaklandluth@gmail.com. Cash prizes will go to the top three places.

Comedy night with Day Peace

Enjoy an evening of comedy with Day Peace from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Events at The Broadway. The north Iowa-based comedian has over 13 years of experience, and it will be a night full of laughter for all who attend. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at https://bit.ly/4dDnxzL

Wells Does It Bright

The community of Wells will have its annual Wells Does It Bright festival Friday. There will be cookie decorating, kids crafts, bounce houses, a craft and vendor fair, a soup supper and more. The Holiday Glow parade will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the west side of CCF Bank. Visit the Wells Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page for more information.

Old-fashioned Christmas brunch 

All are invited to an old-fashioned Christmas brunch at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. It will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. In addition to brunch, there will be crafts, a treat shop, gift baskets and more. This event is sponsored by First Lutheran Church Women for local and global missions.

Night of Dazzle

The Albert Lea Art Center, at 101 S. Broadway, will host a Night of Dazzle Friday night to kick off the holiday season. The fundraiser will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include hors d’oeuvres, a holiday sweater contest, music, door prizes, a cash bar and lighting of the trees. Cost is $25 per person.
