To Albert Lea High School senior Nevaeh Wacholz.

Congratulations to Albert Lea senior Nevaeh Wacholz, who this week secured her 1,000th career point on the varsity basketball court.

Wacholz is no stranger to achieving big things in sports as just in October she recorded her 1,000th set assist in volleyball.

Hats off to setting goals and achieving them and to being driven to succeed. You have a bright future ahead.

To the 59th year of the Turkey Bowl in Albert Lea.

Thanksgiving morning was a chilly one, but that didn’t stop multiple generations from coming out to lower Abbott Field for the annual Turkey Bowl in Albert Lea.

The bowl started with three brothers who were told to get out of the house while their mother cooked the holiday meal. The brothers made a phone call to their neighborhood friend, and they agreed to organize a football game. Within 20 minutes, 25 neighborhood boys were at the field to play.

Fast-forward many years, and this year was the 59th year for the Thanksgiving game to take place. While almost all of the faces are different now from that first game, the camaraderie is there still the same. It’s fun to see the tradition carrying on and new generations joining in.

To Salvation Army bell-ringers.

Thank you to all of the groups and individuals who volunteer their time to ring the bell for the Salvation Army at this time of year.

Whether you volunteer for an hour or all day, from the warmth of the inside of the store or outdoors at another, the community thanks you for your time.

The money raised at the kettle goes back to support the Salvation Army’s services to the community. Their efforts wouldn’t be possible without you.
