Veterans Day events slated in the area

Residents are invited to attend a Veterans Day program in Albert Lea Monday morning planned by American Legion Post 56.

People are asked to assemble at 10:50 a.m. outside the Freeborn County courthouse near the veterans memorial, where there will be raising of the flag, a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps.
After that the program moves to the Legion, at 142 N. Broadway, where Legion Post 56 Cmdr. Ole Olson will welcome those in attendance, followed by a prayer by Les Shaunce, Legion chaplain.

Albert Allen of the Legion Honor Guard will lead those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance and recognition of the colors, followed by a moment of silence for the MIA/POW, led by Olson.
Olson will be the speaker of the event, and the program will conclude with a dinner prayer by Shaunce.

Veterans are invited to stay and enjoy a free lunch after the ceremony. All friends and family members can eat for a freewill donation.

Lunch will be served through 1 p.m.

Glenville-Emmons hosting assembly for Veterans Day open to the public

The Glenville-Emmons School District will host a Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday in the Glenville-Emmons High School gym. Presentation of the colors will be hosted by Legion members, with musical selections from fourth through 12th graders featured.

The guest speaker will be a member of the Minnesota National Guard.

The event is free and open to the public.

Glenville Legion Post 264 meal and program

Glenville American Legion Post 264 will host a sit-down meal the evening of Veterans Day.

All veterans eat free, and spouse and family can eat for a freewill offering.

There will be a social at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Afterward, Judy Ackerman of the Department of Minnesota American Legion Auxiliary will deliver a Veterans Day message.

Dad’s Belgian Waffle Supper and Veterans Day Program in Lake Mills

A Dad’s Belgian Waffle Supper will take place from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. Monday in the Lake Mills Community School foyer.

Veterans eat free, as do children 5 and under.

There will be all-you-can-eat Belgian waffles.

All proceeds will benefit the Lake Mills Veterans Memorial group.

Following the waffle supper will be the Veterans Day program at 7 p.m. in the Lake Mills Community School auditorium, which will include music, a Quilts of Valor presentation and more.
