Update: 2 injured — 1 critically — in crash on Highway 65 south of A.L.

Two people were injured Thursday afternoon when two vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 65 near the northbound Interstate 35 off-ramp.

Nyabang G. Nyuon, 48, of Albert Lea was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for life-threatening injuries, along with her passenger, a 14-year-old Albert Lea boy, who had non life-threatening injuries, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. They were riding in a 2009 Honda Pilot.

According to the State Patrol, a 17-year-old girl, whose name has not been released, was driving a 2011 Chevy Malibu northbound on Highway 65 and the Pilot was southbound when the vehicles collided at 2:52 p.m. near the intersection with northbound I-35. The 17-year-old was not taken to the hospital, the report stated.

The roadway was wet at the time of the crash.

The report stated Nyuon and her passenger were wearing seat belts. The 17-year-old was not. Alcohol was not a factor.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Albert Lea Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance and MnDOT assisted at the scene.
