Albert Lea students honored as MSHSL AAA Award winners

The Albert Lea Activities Department announced Gunnar Hardison and Nevaeh Wacholz as recipients of the prestigious Academics, Arts and Athletics (AAA) Award for their outstanding achievements and dedication in these three areas of student life, according to a press release.

The AAA Award recognizes high school seniors who excel academically, participate in league-sponsored athletic programs and engage in the fine arts.

The release stated Hardison and Wacholz embody the essence of this award through their “unwavering commitment to excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the arts.”

Hardison is celebrated not only for his academic prowess but also for his leadership and versatility in athletics and the arts. A standout swimmer and tennis athlete, Hardison has demonstrated discipline and tenacity on the field, earning accolades for his exceptional performance. In addition, he has excelled in band and orchestra, showcasing his creativity and passion for self-expression.

“Hardison’s ability to balance these demanding commitments while maintaining high academic standards is a testament to his work ethic and dedication,” the release stated.

Nevaeh Wacholz

Wacholz has distinguished herself as a role model through her academic excellence, athletic achievements and artistic contributions. As a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball, Wacholz has consistently demonstrated perseverance and teamwork, earning the respect of her peers and coaches alike. Her talents extend beyond athletics to band and music, where she has left a lasting impact through her creativity and innovation. Wacholz’s achievements reflect her commitment to pursuing excellence in all facets of her life.

“Gunnar and Nevaeh exemplify the best of what our schools and communities have to offer,” said David Langerud, activities director. “Their dedication to academics, arts and athletics serves as an inspiration to their peers and a reminder of the incredible potential within our students.”

Hardison and Wacholz will be formally recognized at the district’s scholarship event, where they will join other exceptional students from Albert Lea High School in celebrating this remarkable achievement.
