Lake Mills hosted their annual home dual tournament Saturday and finished with a 4-1 record on the day.

In the first two duals of the tournament, the Bulldogs controlled South Winneshiek, 60-9, and North Butler-Clarksville, 54-18.

“We started the day wrestling well in the first two duals,” said coach Alex Brandenburg. “It was a good surprise coming off an emotional Osage dual two days prior.”

Next, Lake Mills had their toughest battle of the day, falling to Southeast Polk, 35-31.

“We let this dual slip away by losing a couple close ones,” Brandenburg said. “I knew this would be a toss-up dual, as many of these Southeast Polk second string kids could place at state if they could crack their nationally ranked line-up.”

Dual wins against Central (Elkader), 74-0, and GMLOS (Grand Meadow, MN), 48-36, would round out the day.

“The final two meets produced mixed results,” said Brandenburg. “We wrestled well against Central and terribly against GMLOS.”

One highlight of the day was Hayden Helgeson collecting his 150th career win in the NBC dual. Several individuals finished the day a perfect 5-0: Lucas Oldenkamp, Steve Brandenburg, Caleb Skogen, Hayden Helgeson and Wyatt Hanna.
