To those who help the underhoused and those in need during the below zero temperatures.

This week had the coldest temperatures we’ve seen so far this winter, and we were touched to see a lot of concern in the community about those who may not have proper winter attire or housing during those bitter cold days.

Though Albert Lea does not have a homeless shelter, there are many other generous churches and organizations that help people out in times of need.

Whether it is collecting and distributing coats and other winter gear, providing a place for people to warm up during the day or making sure that people have a roof over their heads at night, there’s a lot that goes on that is not out there in the public.

We would like to see the discussion open up even more about expanding these opportunities even further in the community.

To Albert Lea students Gunnar Hardison and Nevaeh Wacholz.

Congratulations to Gunnar Hardison and Nevaeh Wacholz of Albert Lea High School, who are recipients of the prestigious Academics, Arts and Athletics (AAA) Award through the Minnesota State High School League, for their outstanding achievements and dedication in these three areas of student life. Established to highlight the multidimensional talents of Minnesota’s high school seniors, the award underscores the importance of a holistic approach to education and personal development.

Hardison and Wacholz are excellent role models of dedication to all they are involved in, whether that be a sport, their schooling or other efforts.

We look forward to seeing what these two accomplish in the future after their graduation from high school and are confident that the best is yet to come.
