Organizers of the Albert Lea Fourth of July fireworks said Wednesday the event will continue as scheduled despite rumors the event would not be able to go on in the event of a state government shutdown.
Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Randy Kehr said the company putting on the fireworks is already licensed by the state. To put on the fireworks display, the company had to obtain a permit from the city, and then on the night of the fireworks, the Albert Lea Fire Department will be on hand in case of any problems.
The fireworks system does not have to be looked at by state inspectors; if anything, it is looked at by city inspectors.
