Benefit, wine tasting, breakfasts slated for weekend

A benefit to help with funeral expenses and needs of the children of Kelly Jo Abrego, who died June 30 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Club in Skyline Plaza. Tacos, rice and beans will be served. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 8 and younger. There will also be a bake sale, live auction and silent auction.
Abrego leaves three children, Haley, 8, Leah, 4, and Aliyah, 3.
Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.
Friday, Nov. 7
Northbridge Mall will host a home-based business show from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hollandale Christian School will hold its annual fall supper from 4 to 7 p.m. at the school. Turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes, baked beans, baked apples, cranberry sauce, Chinese salad, carrots and desserts will be served for a donation.
A holiday grand wine and beer tasting, hosted by Fountain Warehouse Liquor, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn of Albert Lea. Admission is $15 per person, which includes a free wine glass. More that 60 different wines and beer will be available to taste. Wine and beer representatives will be on hand. There will also be hors d’oeuvres, silent auction and music. No tickets or reservations are needed. Proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Freeborn County.
Youth for Christ Mini Golf will be open at Northbridge Mall from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.
Saturday, Nov. 8
– Moscow Lutheran Church will hold its hunters’ lunch and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Moscow Town Hall. Chili and sandwiches, home-baked goodies, coffee and doughnuts will be served.
The Alden Legion Auxiliary will host its 23rd annual holiday craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in both gyms of the Alden-Conger School. There will be crafts, gifts, door prizes, concession stands and a noon meal available.
– Northbridge Mall will host a home-based business show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
– Youth for Christ Mini Golf will be open at Northbridge Mall from noon to 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.
– The Albert Lea Community Band will present a concert at 1 p.m. in the center court of Northbridge Mall. The group is directed by Laverne J. Walheim.
Sunday, Nov. 9
– A pancake breakfast to benefit the Bohemian Brick Hall will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion Club. Donations will be accepted and will help with upkeep of the hall and other charities. There will also be a Czech bake sale.
– The Albert Lea Masonic Lodge, 147 N. Broadway Ave., will hold an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, juice and coffee will be served. Those attending are asked to bring a canned food item for the food shelf.
– Northbridge Mall will host a home-based business show from noon to 5 p.m.
– St. Theodore Catholic School will host its annual spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in Marion Hall. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children. There will also be a country store with baked goods and crafts for sale.
– Calvary Baptist Church at the corner of Bridge Avenue and Hammer Road will host an evening of praise and worship music beginning at 6 p.m. Area praise teams, soloists and ensembles will lift their voices and instruments in praise. An offering will be taken for the Salvation Army. Refreshments will be served after the concert.
