Crossroads Community Hospice volunteers are taking their show on the road and urging area residents to help “Set Memories Aglow” this holiday season.
Starting Wednesday and continuing for the next three Wednesdays, volunteers are set up at various locations around town with donation envelopes.
Area residents are urged to donate money toward a light on the special hospice tree in memory of a loved one, friend or for someone living they wish to honor. This tree will be located on the Albert Lea Medical Center campus, 404 W. Fountain St.
A tree lighting ceremony will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, on the front drive of Albert Lea Medical Center. The tree will remain lit through the holiday season.
On Wednesday, volunteers Tom and Barbara Sosebee manned the table at Skyline Plaza.
They have been volunteers for Crossroads Community Hospice for four years, but started volunteering for hospice in Illinois long before moving to Albert Lea six years ago.
“We started with hospice when it was a unit in a hospital,” Barbara said.
“If families needed a break, they could bring people into the unit.”
She said they originally got involved because there was a need for help and because they lived close to the hospital. They continued their work here because they enjoy reaching out to people in need, she added.
“We love hospice,” Barbara said. “Everything is positive. People are willing to share their experience.”
Volunteers will be set up in the following locations this month:
Nov. 12: Northbridge Mall, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Nov. 19: Hy-Vee, 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Nov. 26: HealthReach, 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Donation form envelopes are available at the Albert Lea Medical Center Gift Shop, Alden Clinic, Kiester Clinic, Lake Mills Clinic, New Richland Clinic, Wells Clinic, KATE Radio, and Power 96. For more information call 377-6393.
A quilt made by Barb Rognes and Jeanne Herman will also be raffled off for “Set Memories Aglow.” Tickets are available for $1 in the Albert Lea Medical Center Gift Shop and from volunteers at the above locations.
Crossroads Community Hospice provides support and care for people in the last phases of terminal illness so they might live as fully and comfortably as possible.
