Here are highlights in history for July 1, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1988 — A Tribune article said fireworks based on the Fountain Lake setting started in 1938. Preceding the fireworks, a boat parade was held on the lake.
1968 — The state convention of the Disabled American Veterans was held in Albert Lea. Eric Swancutt was in charge of local convention arrangements.
1938 — New parking regulations went into effect. One hour parking would be enforced on Broadway, Newton and Washington Avenues and Clark, William and Clark Streets.
