Hymnworks by Brock Besse to be performed on Sunday

Hymnworks, a concert of familiar hymns newly arranged and orchestrated by Brock Besse, will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. More than 70 musicians and singers from throughout southeastern Minnesota will join together as the Southeastern Minnesota Chamber Orchestra and the Albert Lea Community Chorus for this concert. Both groups are under the direction of Besse.
Such beloved hymns as “Amazing Grace,” “All Creatures of our God and King” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” are among the pieces that will be performed. The audience will also have an opportunity to join the singing.
Tickets are available at the First Lutheran Church office and at Doyle’s Hallmark. They will also be available at the door. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

Friday, May 21
The Susan DeVries and David Lenz art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.
Saturday, May 22
The Kiddie Farmyard at the Freeborn County Fair will hold a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s to raise funds to remodel the farmyard. Cost is $5 per person. A “Purchase a Brick” fundraiser will also be taking place during the breakfast.
The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at the corner of North Broadway Avenue and Water Street.
The Susan DeVries and David Lenz art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Story Lady Doll & Toy Museum, 131 N. Broadway Ave., will hold a “Wizard of Oz” party for ages 2 to 92 at 1 p.m. There will be treats, stories and surprises. Those attending should bring a camera and a toy or doll for show and tell. Admission is free for museum members and children and $2 for all others.
Sunday, May 23
American Legion Post 56, 142 N. Broadway Ave., will host a breakfast to support the Honor Flight from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 for adults. Children 6 years and younger eat free.
Sons of Norway Normanna Lodge 52 will hold a Norwegian rolled pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lodge near City Arena. Rolled pancakes, ham, potatoes, eggs, lingonberries, coffee, juice and milk will be served. Cost is $6 for adults. Children 5 years and younger eat free.
The Land Between the Lakes Triathlon will be held starting at Edgewater Park at 9 a.m.
