First Team

Aaron Klatt, senior, pitcher, Albert Lea

Aaron Klatt’s impressive career at Albert Lea High School came to an end this spring with a number of postseason awards.

Klatt was selected to the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association Class AAA All-State Team and given the Dick Seltz Big Nine Player of the Year award. Klatt was also named Big Nine All-Conference, co-Team MVP and selected to the Lion’s All-Star Series, an event reserved for the state’s top seniors.

As the Tigers No. 1 pitcher this season, Klatt finished with an 8-1 record and 1.33 earned run average. He struck out 55 batters and walked a team-low 16, while holding opponents to a .222 batting average.

At the plate, Klatt batted .269 with 12 RBIs and a team-high five home runs. Klatt hit four doubles, scored 17 times and stole seven bases in seven attempts.

Cole Sorenson, senior, pitcher, Albert Lea

Cole Sorenson was the Tigers co-Team MVP this season after an impressive season at the plate and on the mound.

Sorenson led the Tigers in almost all offensive categories, including batting average (.459), RBIs (28), doubles (10) and triples (1). He also stole a team-high 11 bases in 11 attempts.

Sorenson was equally impressive on the mound, striking out 71 batters in 67 innings pitched. Sorenson finished the season with a 6-4 record and 1.57 ERA, and held opponents to a team-low .199 batting average.

Sorenson was named Big Nine All-Conference and selected to the Lion’s All-Star Series.

Connor Kortan, senior, catcher, Albert Lea

Connor Kortan was named Big Nine All-Conference this season after being one of the league’s top defensive catchers.

Kortan batted .305 for the Tigers, the team’s second highest batting average, and drew a team-high 17 walks, leading to a .500 on-base percentage.

Kortan scored 11 runs, had four RBIs and three triples, and stole three bases in four attempts.

Ethan Abben, sophomore, infielder, Albert Lea

In his first season on varsity, Ethan Abben led off for the Tigers and had a .474 on-base percentage.

Abben had a .274 batting average, scored 12 run and had five RBIs. Abben drew 15 walks and stole nine bases in 11 attempts. He was named a Big Nine Conference Honorable Mention.

Tyler Woodside, senior, pitcher, Glenville-Emmons

Tyler Woodside was one of the area’s most dominant pitcher this season, racking up 84 strikeouts over 61 innings with a 1.84 ERA.

Woodside finished the season with a 7-3 record, and threw six complete games with one shutout.

Woodside led the Wolverines at the plate, too, posting a .517 batting average with team highs in runs (20), triples (2), RBIs (18) and stolen bases (15). Woodside struck out only twice in 58 at bats and had a .576 on-base percentage and .638 slugging percentage.

Woodside was named Southeast All-Conference.

Spencer Kral, senior, pitcher, Glenville-Emmons

Despite being the Wolverines’ second pitching option, Spencer Kral posted impressive numbers on the mound.

Kral struck out 74 batters in 52 1/3 innings, and finished the season with a 2.68 ERA. Kral had a 6-2 record and pitched six complete games with three shutouts.

At the plate, Kral had a .305 batting average, the fourth-highest on the team, with four doubles and 14 RBIs. Kral stole three bases in three attempts and walked 10 times en route to a .431 on-base percentage. He was also named Southeast All-Conference.

Sam Lundberg, senior, pitcher, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva

Sam Lundberg was the Panthers’ top hitter this season, batting .450 with 21 RBIs and 11 doubles.

The senior, who also was a standout pitcher, stole 10 bases and scored 14 runs. Lundberg played outfield for the Panthers and had a .967 fielding percentage.

Anthony Stenzel, senior, pitcher, United South Central

Anthony Stenzel was the Rebels’ top pitcher this season, finishing with a 7-2 record after the getting the ball in all the big games.

Stenzel threw seven complete games and had 79 strikeouts in 61 innings, while posting a 1.90 ERA.

Stenzel was named Gopher All-Conference and Team MVP. The three-year starter and team captain hit .250 from the plate.

Dustin Dylla, senior, outfielder/pitcher, United South Central

Dustin Dylla was named Gopher All-Conference for the second year in a row this season.

Dylla had a .361 batting average, the team’s best, and had five doubles. Dylla walked 17 times and struck out only five times in 47 at bats.

Dylla also went 3-1 on the mound.

Second Team

Makael Lunning, sophomore, outfielder, Alberrt Lea

Makael Lunning was a Big Nine Conference Honorable Mention this season after batting .262 for the Tigers.

Lunning drove in eight runs, second most on the team, and hit two home runs. Lunning scored 10 times, drove in eight runs and hit four doubles and a triple. He also stole nine bases in nine attempts.

Cory Hansen, senior, outfielder, Albert Lea

Cory Hansen batted .258 this spring en route to a Big Nine Conference Honorable Mention.

Batting second and playing left field, Hansen hit a double, triple and home run, and had six RBIs. He scored 12 runs and walked nine times, which contributed to a .417 on-base percentage. Hansen also stole seven bases in eight attempts.

Landon Hall, senior, third baseman, Glenville-Emmons

Landon Hall was named Southeast All-Conference this season after batting .326 for the Wolverines the season.

As the team’s third baseman, Hall hit four doubles and recorded 10 RBIs while stealing seven bases in seven attempts.

Hall sacrificed his body and led the team with three hit by pitches and walked 14 times, third most of the team, en route to a .517 on-base percentage.

Peter Hansen, senior, infielder, Glenville-Emmons

Peter Hansen batted .317 for the Wolverines this season and was named Southeast All-Conference.

Hansen led the team with 63 at bats and hit five doubles, a triple and one of the team’s only two home runs. Hansen also stole 11 bases in 12 attempts.

Tyson Morton, senior, outfielder, United South Central

Tyson Morton was named voted the Rebels’ Most Improved Player this season and received a Gopher All-Conference nod.

The All-Section 2A infielder had a .344 batting average and led the Rebels in hits with 16. He had nine doubles, two triples and 14 RBIs.

Eric Lackey, senior, shortstop, United South Central

Eric Lackey was a Rebels’ captain this season and three-year starter at shortstop.

The senior was named Gopher All-Conference after batting .319 with four doubles and a triple. Lackey stole 10 bases, walked 19 times and had 14 RBIs.

Jacob Staloch, junior, infielder, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva

Jacob Staloch was an RBI machine this season, driving in 24 runs for the Panthers.

The third baseman and catcher batted .328 with 16 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.

Jacob Johnson, sophomore, utility, Alden-Conger

Jacob Johnson was an ironman for the Knights this season, playing various positions when needed.

The sophomore batted .400, had good work ethic and a high baseball IQ.

David Lassahn, junior, outfielder, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva

David Lassahn was one of the top offensive contributors for the Panthers this season, batting .370 with 20 runs scored and nine RBIs.

The junior outfielder hit one home run and stole 14 bases.
