Musicals, dinner, breakfasts and corn mazes on tap

American Legion Leo Carey Post 56 will host a Sunday dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A choice of chicken, beef or pork dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, lettuce salad, dessert and beverage will be served. Vic Gilbertson will provide background music.
Cost is $15 per person or $25 for two people. Those donating $51.26 or more have a chance to win a $200 gas card, $100 grocery card, two Albert Lea Community Theatre season tickets, a $50 gas card or a $50 grocery card.
The goal is to help Post 56 wipe out debt and remain at 142 N. Broadway Ave. so the honor guard can continue to have a place to call home.
Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.
Friday, Oct. 17
– The Angela Burch and Ryan Heath art exhibit will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted to help defray Art Center expenses.
– The North Star Corn Maze, one miles north and one mile west of Northwood, Iowa, will be open from noon to midnight. Admission is $5 per person; children under 5 will be admitted free.
– The Prairie River Camp Corn Maze, located three miles south of Interstate 90 on Highway 253, will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for those 12 years and older and $3 for ages 5 to 11. There is a family rate of $18.
– Youth for Christ Mini Golf will be open at Northbridge Mall from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.
– The Lighthouse Event Center, 638 Marshall St., will host “A Touch of Broadway,” featuring the songs from “Mamma Mia,” at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available in advance for $12 at Tone Music. They are also available at the door for $15.
– “Tales of Two Counties” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at Tone Music, Doyle’s Hallmark and Nancy VanderWaerdt’s State Farm office. Tickets will also be sold at the Albert Lea Farmers Market.
Saturday, Oct. 18
– The student human services club (DEEDS) from Riverland Community College will host a fundraising breakfast at Applebee’s from 7 to 10 a.m. The $5 meal consists of two pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and a beverage of choice (coffee, milk or orange juice) with all proceeds benefiting community service projects.
– The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon.

– The Albert Lea Elks Lodge will hold a pancake breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, hash browns, sausage, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $5 per person.
– Northbridge Mall will hold an ice fishing expo from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a fishing frenzy contest from 1 to 4 p.m. in the food court.
– The North Star Corn Maze will be open from noon to 10 p.m.
– The Pelican Breeze II will hold its final cruise of the season, a narrated cruise to view the fall colors, at 1:30 p.m. No reservations are needed.
– The Prairie River Camp Corn Maze will be open from 2 to 8 p.m.
– “Tales of Two Counties” will be presented at 2 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.
– An open house cider-making demonstration and apple-tasting event will be held at the Huntley farm from 2 p.m. until dusk. The farm is located 3.5 miles south of Twin Lakes on County Road 16 (or 720th Avenue). The address is 10516 720th Ave. For more information, call 297-5546.
– Albert Lea organists are participating in an organ crawl concert starting at 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 918 Garfield Ave. At 3:20 p.m., the event moves to First Presbyterian Church, 308 Water St., to hear the organ there at 3:30 p.m. At 3:50 p.m., the event moves to the United Methodist Church, 702 Highway 69 S., to hear the Moller organ at 4 p.m. Bob Tewes, Gretchen Zinsli and Eileen NelsonNess will be the featured organists. The event is free and cookies and coffee will follow the final program at United Methodist.
– Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden will hold its annual harvest dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Alden-Conger School cafeteria. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and children under 5 years eat free. Turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cranberry salad, rolls and homemade desserts will be served. Funds will support the church’s roof project.
