Let’s get the record straight on tax plan

I am writing to correct what I believe to be a mistake by a recent letter writer on Rep. Robin Brown’s record on taxes. The writer referred to a legislative proposal to index property taxes. He made it sound as if one’s property taxes would increase as their income increased. What the legislation actually said was that your property taxes could never be more than 2 percent of your income. Rep. Brown’s support was particularly targeting those individuals who are fixed incomes and those individuals who’s income was not keeping up with the increase in their property taxes. This proposal would lower property taxes for many and assure that real estate taxes would never be allowed to become more than 2 percent of your income. No where in this legislation did it ever say that if your property taxes already were not as high as 2 percent of your income that your taxes would increase or somehow be indexed. Rep. Brown is working hard to reign in the burden on average tax payers and continues to work hard on behalf of all the people of District 27A.
