The Albert Lea volleyball team picked up its second win of the season Saturday against Medford in the Blue Earth Invite.
The Tigers defeated Medford 25-27, 25-14, 15-8 and claimed sixth place in the tournament. Albert Lea lost its other matches of the day against New-Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 25-13, 25-10, Blue Earth 25-20, 25-22 and United South Central 25-19, 25-15.
“All in all we had a good day,” Tigers head coach Lisa Deyak said. “I think they gained some confidence and we really need that.”
Deyak said the team was playing as well as it has this season and says the team needs to build off of what it accomplished in the tournament as it finishes out the regular season.
“We just have to keep the momentum going,” Deyak said. “We just have to keep pushing forward.”
Albert Lea faces Austin Tuesday in Austin and then plays Century at home this week.
The Panthers finished second in the tournament. NRHEG defeated Medford 25-22, 25-20 but lost to Southwest Star Concept in the championship game 22-25, 25-18, 9-15. The Panthers were the only team in the tournament to take a game from Southwest Star Concept.
The Rebels lost to Martin County West 9-25, 15-25 and Southwest Star Concept 12-25, 16-25. USC defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 25-14, 25-14 and beat Albert Lea for fifth place in the tournament.
