Ty Pennington and his “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” TV crew this morning knocked on the door of the Dirk and Susan DeVries family of rural Hayward.
The knock on the door happened slightly after 10 a.m. today. There were four cameras rolling. Pennington and the family toured the house and the area around the house.
The family lives on a farm in Hayward Township about three miles east of Hayward. The address is 84588 200th St.
Dirk farms and Susan is a music and reading teacher at Hollandale Christian School. They have three children. One, Derik, is a 10th-grader and is an offensive guard for the Albert Lea High School football team.
The family will leave today for a vacation.
Building a new home for this family is a community-effort. Companies are donating labor and materials, and volunteers are donating their time. Larson Contracting is in charge of building the house. A list of all the companies assisting in the effort can be found under “Partners” at the official Web site.
There, you also will find additional photographs, information about the selected family, a Q&A on the show, and plenty of other tidbits. You also can find past stories, photos and videos the Tribune has done on the subject. Here is a map to the site.
The Dirk and Susan DeVries family is not related to Larson Contracting President Lynn DeVries.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” airs on ABC at 7 p.m. Sundays.
