The girls and boys cross country teams competed in the 33 team Red Bird Invitational at Montgomery Thursday.
Abby Trio led the Girls, running her best time of the season by over a minute, to finish 49th in the field of 208 runners. “Abby’s been getting stronger every meet,” Coach Kent Viesselman said. Six of the seven varsity runners for the Rebels ran their best time of the season, as they improved their team time (sum of the top five runners’ times) by four minutes. Trio, Amber Erickson, Lindsay Johnson, and Kelsey Munson all improved on their season bests by about a minute.
“This has gotten to be a really tough meet,” Viesselman said. “We actually had our best meet of the season, but it’s a little tough to see that when you look at the team standings.”
Jordan Haroldson led the boys with his best performance of the season, finishing 10th in the field of approximately 200 runners.
“Our top three runners in the boys also had their best times of the season. I thought we ran well, especially through our top three runners. We were hoping to get packed up a little better than we did,” Viesselman said. “But sometimes it’s tough with that many runners.”
Tom Allis and Pete Trio also had their best times of the season.
Thursday the Rebels run at the Maple River Invitational. The meet will be held at Daly Park, with the first race scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
