Knights veer from game plan

So much for a game plan. Alden-Conger head football coach Chad Mattson decided to scrap his original idea of using the passing game more against Madelia Friday night on the bus ride over to the game and it worked quite well.

The Knights cruised to a 46-6 win over Madelia (0-1) as the power running game was enough for Alden-Conger. The Knights rushed for 297 yards on the evening.

Alden-Conger senior David Troska got things going right away with a 76-yard kick return to begin the game and two series later Troska scored from 39 yards out to give the Knights a 24-0 advantage.

Alden-Conger (1-0) added 22 more points in the second quarter and it was lights out for Madelia.

The Knights’ running game was so effective that the team threw the ball only three times during the game and completed a lone pass.

Alden-Conger’s defense was as tough as its running game as the defense only allowed 61 yards of total offense.
