New handbell choir to start
Published 8:59 am Friday, August 15, 2008
Beginning in September, a new handbell choir called Classy Clappers will begin at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. This is open to any community member interested in ringing handbells.
This group’s mission is to broaden the exposure of handbells in the community and strive for high standards of musical excellence. While reading music is helpful, one does not need to read music to play the bells although you need to be able to count to four. Basic music theory will be taught at each rehearsal. There will be periods of standing, so comfortable shoes are required. There will be two sessions in the fall, ending before Christmas. Members must be available for each rehearsal.
There will be a small fee for non-United Methodist members. All supplies will be furnished by the church. At the end of each session, the group will play a short program.
Registration will be taken until Sept. 8. Time for the bell rehearsal will be Thursdays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. and registration is limited to 15. Contact Eileen Ness at the Methodist Church for more information and to register.
