Here are highlights in history for July 18, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — A Tribune ad said the Carson & Barnes 5-Ring Circus would be in Albert Lea on July 26. The circus, sponsored by the local Knights of Columbus, would set up behind the Hy-Vee store.
1976 — The Garden Place, 319 W. Main St., was featuring fresh fruits and vegetables. One of their advertised specials was watermelon at 13 cents a pound.
1956 — Burt May, retired editor of the Tribune, died a few days earlier in a Rochester hospital. He had retired in 1945 after 47 years with the Tribune.
