The Albert Lea Friends of the Library will hold a spring used book sale today through Saturday in the City Hall garage off Fountain Street. Donations may be brought to the garage from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. The sale begins today from 4 to 7 p.m. for members only. Memberships may be purchased there for $5.

The sale continues for the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, there will be a bag sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be hardcover and paperback books, children’s books, audio books and videotapes.

Friday, May 14

Zion Lutheran Church, 924 Bridge Ave., will hold a salad luncheon with garlic toast and bars from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. The event is hosted by Hannah Circle. Proceeds will go toward mission projects.

The Susan DeVries and David Lenz art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

The Diamond and Denim Food and Wine Tasting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. There will be a silent auction as well. Tickets are $20 per person and they are available at Hy-Vee, Doyle’s Hallmark, Sterling Drug, the Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. Proceeds benefit the Good Samaritan Society.

Saturday, May 15

The Shades of Jade Regional Garden Club will hold its annual plant and bulb sale from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 7 will sell rain barrels from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Northbridge Mall.

The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at the corner of North Broadway Avenue and Water Street.

The Susan DeVries and David Lenz art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Alden Morin Lake Days will hold its second annual Four-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament at Oak View Golf Course. The tournament starts with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $25 person person for 18 holes. Carts are not included. Contact Oak View to reserve a cart at (507) 863-2288. Proceeds go toward putting on the fireworks during the Morin Lake Days Celebration June 18-20. The fireworks show is on Saturday, June 19, at dusk. The Albert Lea Community Band will give a concert at 1 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.

The Law Enforcement Center will hold an open house from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Joyce Matthies Dancers will present their end-of-the-year recital at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway Ave. Tickets are available at the box office from 9 a.m. to noon and 30 minutes prior to each performance.

Jennifer Ordalen will perform at the Lighthouse Event Center, 638 Marshall St., at 3 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are available at Stadheim Jewelers and Hy-Vee. Sunday, May 16

The Albert Lea Alano Society, 1005 N. Ulstad Ave., will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. The breakfast includes pancakes, french toast, hashbrowns, eggs, patty sausage, coffee and juice. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 years and younger.

The Albert Lea Masonic Lodge, 147 N. Broadway Ave., will hold an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, and sausage, orange juice and coffee will be served. Students from the Albert Lea High School music department will wait on tables.

Community Lutheran Church in Geneva will hold its eighth annual meatball dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cole slaw, rolls, pie, coffee and juice will be served for a donation.

String, voice and piano students of Sharon Astrup-Scott will hold a recital at 1:30 p.m. in the St. John’s Lutheran Home Chapel. The public is welcome.

Several Albert Lea High School senior vocalists will perform a recital at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The public is welcome. Refreshments will be served following the recital.

Youth For Christ: The Rock will host an ice cream sundae social from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Fountain Lake Park gazebo. This is a chance to “get the scoop” about Youth For Christ. The program featuring Pete and Rachelle Benson and family in concert and YFC Kidz Youth Choir, directed by Mary Wayne, starts at 3:30 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be held at The Rock, 116 W. Clark St.
