The Lake Mills baseball team reached 20 wins on the season Wednesday night with a 12-2, come from behind win over Southeast Webster-Grand-Burnside.
The Bulldogs haven’t reached the 20 win mark since 2000 and it capped off a solid regular season for the seniors on the team.
“To go to 20 wins is nice to see the hard work pay off,” Lake Mills head coach Jason Blaser said.
The team hasn’t experienced the amount of success they saw this season and it gave the team a shot of confidence heading into the playoffs, which begin Saturday against Central Springs.
The Bulldogs (20-13) scored their third comeback win of the week when they scored two runs in the third innings.
“There was never a doubt that we would come back,” Blaser said. “It was a good night for the seniors.”
Steve Hengesteg was one of those seniors and he had a 2-for-3 night at the plate , scored two runs and drove in two runs.
Freshman Levi Dahle also had a big night as he went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Starting pitcher Chris Throne got all the support he needed as he shutdown Southeast Webster-Grand-Burnside after the first inning.
After allowing two runs on three hits in the first inning, Throne didn’t allow a hit the rest of the way and struck out five for the win.
“I’ve never seen him throw like that before,” Blaser said. “He kicked it into another gear.”
