Jordan Cooper had a day on the mound and at the plate.
Cooper needed only 55 pitches to shut down Rochester Century Saturday for the Albert Lea VFW baseball team in an 11-1 win and went 2-for-4 at the dish to lead his team.
“Jordan pitched really well,” Tigers coach Jack Kortan said. “He got ahead of hitters and had great control of his curveball.”
J.T. Bellrichard went 2-for-3 with two doubles and Josh Eisenbraun added a 2-for-3 performance.
The second game wasn’t as easy for Albert Lea as it lost a 4-0 first inning lead when Rochester Century came back to score one in the second and four in the third to grab a 5-4 lead.
The Tigers rallied in the seventh when Colby Strilaeff hit a two-run double to give his team a 9-8 advantage heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Strilaeff took to the mound in the seventh and pitched a perfect inning to give Albert Lea the 9-8 win.
The Tigers collected 11 hits in the game and Strilaeff drove in three runs with a 2-for-2 day. Aaron Klatt added two RBIs with a double and a single for a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Albert Lea moved to 10-1 on the season and plays Rochester John Marshall today at 4 p.m. at Hayek Field in a doubleheader.
