Ben Woodside has signed his third professional basketball contract, this time in Europe’s top league.
Woodside, a 2004 graduate of Albert Lea High School and the basketball program’s all-time leading scorer, signed with KK Union Olimpija in Ljubljana, Lithuania.
Union Olimpija currently competes in three leagues: Premier A Slovenia League, the Adriatic League and the Euroleague. The Euroleague is Europe’s premier basketball league and the world’s second best only to the NBA.
After graduating from North Dakota State University in 2009, Woodside, 26, played for BCM Gravelines in the French National Basketball League over the past two seasons. Woodside has also played for the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves’ and Golden State Warriors’ summer league teams but didn’t participate in any NBA activity this summer because of the NBA lockout.
Union Olimpija’s roster currently includes one other American player, 22-year-old Deon Thompson, who played at the University of North Carolina.
