Knights take third

The Albert Lea Knights U10 team had another successful weekend competing in the 16 team 10AA Bracket at the Lakeville Invitational.

There were 60 teams in four different divisions playing ball in Lakeville the weekend of May 30-June 1.

The Knights battled Rochester in the first game of pool play and tied them 10-10. Albert Lea received the win because of it had the least runs allowed in the next two games.

The locals then trounced Burnsville 12-1 in a run shortened game.

The final pool game was against the Mankato Gold team and the Knights came out victorious once again 8-2.

Entering bracket play with a No. 1 seed the Knights started play against Richfield. It proved the best game of the weekend with the Knights coming out on top 2-1. They turned two double plays and threw out three runners trying to steal.

The next game was against Mankato Maroon, the eventual champs, and Albert Lea lost 8-2.

The third place game featured the Knights against Lakeville. This was another close game but the locals held them off capturing third place with a 10-9 win.

As a result Albert Lea secured a trip to the MSF State Tournament. With the third place finish the Knights have qualified for all three baseball association’s State Tournaments.
