The memorial service for Omer Lawrence Majerus of Albert Lea will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in
St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Rural Kellogg. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the Church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Military Honors will be accorded.
Omer was born on Nov. 5, 1923, to Lawrence and Bertha Majerus in Bellechester. The family lived on several farms in Wabasha County. Omer grew up with an older sister, Cecilia, and two younger sisters, Marian and Delores. After graduating from Plainview High School, he joined the Army Air Corp serving from 1943 through 1945 as a Tail Gunner in B17s. During that time, he flew over 50 missions out of northern Africa and Italy to targets in Germany, Austria and the Balkan Countries, including the Polesti Oil fields. He also served from 1950 through 1951 during the Korean conflict.
Returning from WWII, he married Mary Frances Murphy on Sept. 24, 1946, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Conception. They moved to Albert Lea in October
of 1954 where Omer was employed as National Sales Manager for Universal Milking Equipment Company.
Omer retired from Universal Milking Equipment Company after a career of over 30 years and then worked for Enders Tool Company for 24 years, retiring recently for a second time.
He is survived by two sisters, Marian and her husband, Charles, of Plainview, and Delores of Rochester; six sons: Bob and his wife Kathy, Gurnee, Ill., Larry and his wife Kathy, Cheyenne, Wyo., Marty and his wife Susan, Riverton Wyo., Tony and his wife Marilee, Albert Lea, Charlie and his wife Anita, Alden, Chris and his wife Theresa, Rochester, and 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Bertha, sister Cecilia, wife Mary on Dec. 22, 1991, and their son, Jeffery, during birth on March 1, 1952.
Omer was a past Commander of the Wm. Allen Post of the American Legion in Plainview. He was a member of the American Legion for 62 years and a Life Member of the VFW, Elks and the Albert Lea Pistol Club.
