Memorial Day is time for reflection

Today, we remove our hats and lower our heads and reflect on the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and ordinary citizens who died fighting for freedoms of the United States of America. They gave the greatest sacrifices so that we can enjoy the simplest of acts, such as free religion and free assembly. This newspaper is eternally grateful to veterans, for freedom of the press is among the many cherished American freedoms.

Perhaps one result of high gas prices is that fewer people will be taking trips away from their homes. Most ceremonies took place this morning. Hopefully, it was a good opportunity for many who normally don’t attend cemeteries on Memorial Day to do just that.
