Teacher of the Year’s work is from compassion

Congratulations go out to Mary Hinnenkamp for being chosen Teacher of the Year in the Albert Lea School District. She was also awarded the Apple Award by the Chamber of Commerce.

Mary Hinnenkamp has dedicated her entire life with working, not with the privileged, but those in desperate need. From working with the poor of Kentucky to group homes in New York to the poor of Chicago and Washington D.C., her work has always been one of compassion. In 1988, she began teaching at the Area Learning Center and said, “I had finally found a home, professionally speaking.” Presently, she’s the coordinator for the Area Learning Center.

Let’s all congratulate one who has touched so many lives and for her lifetime dedicated to humanitarian needs. Reps. Robin Brown, Jeanne Poppe, David Bly and I know her well through her dedication to education.
