Kenneth Westrum, 82, Glenville

Funeral services for Kenneth E. Westrum of Glenville will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Round Prairie Lutheran Church of rural Glenville.
The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Military Honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran&8217;s Organizations.
Kenneth Westrum died on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at his home in Glenville. He died after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
He was born on July 23, 1926 in Albert Lea, the son of Edgar and Nora (Kipp) Westrum. He was raised in Albert Lea and attended Albert Lea High School and graduated in 1944. He then went on to graduate from Dunwoody Institute.
He married his first wife Laura Frances Ellickson in May of 1947. She passed away in December of 1983. He married Frances Proulx in February 1993.
Ken was in the U.S. Army in 1945 as a master dog handler in an Infantry Scout Dog Platoon. Following his return from the service he was employed at Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea. He retired as chief plant engineer after 35 years.
He was a member of Round Prairie Lutheran Church of Glenville and had been formerly a member of United Methodist Church of Albert Lea.
Ken was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and gardener. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, Pheasants Forever, Elks Club, Eagles, Albert Lea Ranger Hockey and American Legion. He loved to spend time hunting and entertaining family and friends at his cabin on Bear Lake.
Ken is survived by his second wife, Frances of rural Glenville; three sons: Bruce (Cheryl) Westrum of Austin, Reid (Barb) Westrum and their children, Jeremy, Laura and April all of Stewartville, Rodney (DeeAnn) Westrum and their children, Grant and Paige all of Lakeville; step-children: Paul (Marcia) Proulx of Robbinsdale, Connie (Gary) Smalley of Minnesota Lake, Debra Proulx of Albert Lea, Michael (Deborah) Proulx of Winsted; 11 step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 16 great-grandchildren; brothers: Edgar (Florence) Westrum of Ann Arbor, Mich., Richard (Elaine) Westrum of Waseca, John (Cooki) Westrum of Apple Valley; many nieces and nephews; and Sandy his beloved yellow lab.
Ken is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; first wife, Laura Frances Westrum in December of 1983; sons: Charles and Steven; brother Robert Westrum and sister Marion Collette.
Memorials preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice or Round Prairie Lutheran Church.
