Lawrence Wilhelm, 83, previously of Albert Lea

Funeral services for Lawrence John Wilhelm, 83, previously of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lunder Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Interment will be at Lunder Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.

Lawrence died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Parkview Care Center, Wells.

Lawrence John Wilhelm was born on July 18, 1924 to Otto and Margaret (Schmitt) Wilhelm in Albert Lea. He attended rural school in Freeborn County. Lawrence farmed for a short time and then worked at Wilson&8217;s in Albert Lea. He was united in marriage to Helen Korakas on May 18, 1945 in Glenville. Lawrence served as the mayor/city clerk for Twin Lakes. He was a lifelong resident of Freeborn County. Lawrence enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Eagles in Albert Lea and a member of Lunder Lutheran Church. Lawrence enjoyed carpentry, caring for his yard and home and being a handyman.

Survivors include his children, Lauryne and husband Jim Stern of Wells, Julene and husband Grant Backey of Madison, Wis., Larry and wife Debra Wilhelm of Zumbro Falls, and Pauline and husband Scott Asbill of Modesto, Calif.; grandchildren, Lorryna and husband Jon Marshall, Lenny and wife Stephanie Hulburt, Christopher Stern, Tammi and husband Chris Nelson, Shawn Wilhelm and wife Stacy, Bryan Wilhelm and wife JoAnn, Michelle and husband Joshua Benike, Eric Asbill and Owen Asbill; also 12 great-grandchildren.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen; three brothers, Clifford, Merle, and Lester; and two sisters, Ellen and Dorothy.
