Peek at the Past

Here are highlights in history for Aug. 1, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1991 — Country Kitchen, 2007 E. Main St., was featuring “Tribune Breakfast Specials.” One of those specials was two eggs, hash browns and toast for $1.39.

1981 — A column by Bill Baer, naturalist at Helmer Myre State Park, said the campground had quite a few raccoons. The critters were enjoying the extra food provided by careless campers.

1961 — A new team based on slow pitch softball was being proposed for players in Albert Lea.
