In last week’s Tribune there’s a headline that the city manager and city council are unhappy with this video contract with CGI Communications so they will not renew the three-year contract, which is only 1 1/2 years along. Isn’t that interesting?

We’ve been stuck with no good Twin Cities channels on our Charter Communications TV for years now. The channel 29, CFTO doesn’t count because it is worthless and pathetic! Rochester, Blue Earth, Bricelyn and the many other communities I checked with on this topic received channel 4-WCCO, 5-KSTP, 9-KMSP and 11-KARE plus Public TV from Twin Cities.

I’ve asked the mayor and public officials, I’ve written several letters asking for a good TV channel from Minneapolis and St. Paul area. It all falls on a deaf ear. Their standard answer is “Nothing can be done about this situation.” If they think all the citizens in our town and area believe them, the elevator isn’t getting all the way to the top floor!

They should all go early to the next City Council meeting and find this book “The Little Engine that Could” in the children’s library. Everybody laughed at the small train planning to go up and over the mountain to deliver the toys to the boys and girls. The little engine said “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can” and he made it! It depends on a good attitude and spirit of willingness.

We live in a democracy, thank God, where people should be given choices. In communism the people have no say, quite similar to Albert Lea’s TV cable.

There was a City Council meeting in session and an old man was pestering them during the long meeting. Finally the mayor couldn’t stand it so long and he said pointing to the old man, “Stand up and tell us what you have ever done for the good of our city.” “Well my mayor and city council members, I voted against you in the last election.”

If it takes only 1 1/2 years for you to decide to do something about your cable TV problem, how much longer will you take to decide to do something about cable TV problems for our Albert Lea area citizens? We all have been waiting for a long time on this one.
