More than 50 women from throughout Freeborn and Steele counties attended the Republican women&8217;s spring luncheon on May 3. Dorothy Fleming, deputy chairwoman of the Republican Party of St. Paul, and Lori Davis, wife of endorsed candidate for Congress, Brian Davis, were the speakers.

Fleming, a wife and mother of three grown daughters, urged the women to participate in politics and to study the issues which may affect their lives. With a background in community activities such as a city council member and being a founding member of Human Life Alliance along with many other activities, Fleming explained how important it was for women to actively participate in their communities.

Davis spoke on behalf of her husband, Brian, a Mayo Clinic physician since 1996, who was endorsed for Congress at the recent convention of the First Congressional District of Minnesota. She told rather humorous stories of their family life with four children. Davis, also a doctor at Mayo, spoke about her husband Brian&8217;s beliefs, especially emphasizing his conservative values and his opinions on health care.

Pat Waters, luncheon chairwoman, was the emcee. Jill Marin gave the table prayer.

Mayor Randy Erdman welcomed the women to the city of Albert Lea. Tiny Brandt, Freeborn County Republican chairman, greeted the women and urged them to participate in events sponsored by the Republican party.

Committee members were: Dorothy Erlandson, Flo Brandt, Sybil Broskoff, Jan Overgaard, Barb Rofshus, Claudia Rofshus, Maxine Rogness, Bev Nelson and Marlene Behle.
