Sanford Schaer, 95, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Sanford Frederick (Sandy) Schaer of Albert Lea will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, as Sandy was a World War II veteran. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea veterans organizations. Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, is in charge of arrangements.
Sandy passed away peacefully on May 5, 2008, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.
He was 95 years old.
Sandy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara; daughters, Mary (Tom) Whittington, Barbara Schaer-Mady (Mike), Nancy Hannum (Ron), Karen Gomez (Benjamin); grandchildren Jennifer, Joe, Jeremy, Amy, Melissa, Jenny and Joan; and great-granddaughter Lilly.
Preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Carl Schaer.
A loving husband and father, Sandy was born in Superior, Neb., on Nov. 23, 1912. He worked for Armour Foods for his entire career, was a lifelong member of the Elks, loved the game of golf and dogs Buster, Biney, Penny and Mitzi. A special thanks to caregivers Brenda, Kathy, Sue, Kristin, Penny, Rick, Heather, Carrie and special family friend Peggy Raleigh.
