Albert O. Jacobs, 80, of Alden, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate and burial will be in the Alden Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Alden American Legion-Freeborn veterans organization.
Albert was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Alden, the son of Edward and Bertha (Jordan) Jacobs. He graduated from Alden High School in 1945 and entered into the Army. He went through basic training at Fort Polk, La., and was stationed at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He returned home to the family farm to continue farming, where he enjoyed spending the rest of his life. On June 28, 1949, he married Marjean Swenson in Wells. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Alden American Legion and the Alden Senior Citizens. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and the outdoors. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife after retirement and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: James and Elmer; sisters Marie, Thelma, and Dorothy.
He is survived by wife Marjean of Alden; six children Nancy (Darris) Larson of Plymouth, Iowa, Alan (Jackie) Jacobs of Ellendale, Debra Kauffmann (special friend Charles Kalina) of Faribault, Brian (Amber) Jacobs of Alden, Randy (Kim) Jacobs of Cylinder, Iowa, and Wayne (Nancy) Jacobs of Alden; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Anna Jahnke and Deloris Jacobs, both of Alden; brother Donald Jacobs of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.
