Here are highlights in history for Aug. 4, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1984 — The Mower County Fair in Austin would be observing its centennial from Aug. 6 through 12. Merriam’s Midway Shows would be a part of this fair.

1974 — Wayne Grinell and Pam Sigurdson won top honors in the men’s and women’s singles tournament sponsored by the Albert Lea Tennis Association.

1954 — Carol Emmons, lifeguard at the city beach for six years, would be the new health and education director at the Rock Island, Ill., YWCA.
